DET LYSE BAL
AARHUS FOLK FESTIVAL
Join an evening of both group dances and partner dances, where the music is carefully crafted for the steps and figures of traditional dancing, drawing from Denmark’s rich folk dance heritage.
DET LYSE BAL
Det Lyse Bal presents newly composed and newly arranged folk music for string quintet and percussion. Kristine Heebøll’s compositions are filled with memorable melodies, lyrical passages, and richly coloured harmonies, forming the backbone of a thoughtfully curated bal progression. The result is a refreshing new take on the traditional folk dance evening.
The expressive possibilities of the string ensemble, combined with grooving percussion, create an exciting and contemporary setting for folk dancing.
In collaboration with Nordisk Dans Aarhus, the dance master will guide participants throughout the evening. The programme includes a short introductory workshop as well as well-timed instructions during the dances, making the event accessible to both experienced dancers and complete beginners.

NORDISK DANS
Nordisk Dans is best described as a concept created by – and for – young enthusiasts of traditional dance and music. Originating in Copenhagen, it began when a small group of young people wanted a place to meet and dance folk dances on their own terms.
In November 2016, Nordisk Dans hosted its very first dance evening in Copenhagen, and since then the concept has spread to Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, Esbjerg, Roskilde, and Svendborg.
Today, Nordisk Dans consists of several regional organiser groups, each arranging dance evenings in their respective cities, primarily during the autumn, winter, and spring seasons. A typical evening begins with an hour of instruction in one or more traditional dances, followed by an informal bal with live music.
