GUIDED SHARED READING
DEN TURKISE HAVE
What connects us to people we have never met? Which stories do we carry within us, and which communities do we belong to without always noticing them? Together, we will explore these questions while enjoying the sun and literature on Persian carpets in the turkis garden during Aarhus Festival.
The Festuge and the Turquoise Garden’s “Invisible Connections”.
Together with reading guide Weronika, we take slow, shared steps into texts that unfold the invisible connections between people, between places, and between the small moments that so often disappear in the pace of everyday life. Amid the creative diversity of the festival, we create a small literary sanctuary where we read, listen, and reflect together.
Taking part in a Guided Shared Reading session requires no preparation or prior knowledge of literature — only curiosity and an open mind. The texts are carefully selected and read aloud by the reading guide, and the conversation emerges naturally from what we experience and notice in our encounter with the literature.
Come as you are, and perhaps leave with a new perspective on your surroundings and the people you share them with.
The event is free of charge, but registration is required.
This shared reading session marks the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between The Reader Association and turkis. Going forward, guided shared reading sessions will take place in the afternoons, approximately every second Monday.
Everyone is welcome.
ABOUT GUIDED SHARED READING
Guided Shared Reading is a method developed to share literary experiences through live reading in small groups. A trained reading guide leads the session, which alternates between reading aloud and conversation. Participants are not expected to prepare in advance.
The method centres on the thoughts and emotions that arise in the moment as the text is being read. Conversations grow out of each participant’s personal reading experience and the life experiences they bring into their understanding of the text, rather than any academic or previously acquired knowledge of literature.
Everyone can take part.
ABOUT THE READER ASSOCIATION
We are a civil society organisation working at the intersection of literature, mental well-being, and social development. Our purpose is to bring literature to places where it can make a meaningful difference and to create strong reading communities for people in all life situations and across social backgrounds.
The Reader Association has a particular focus on including people in vulnerable life situations, and we work across sectors to establish reading groups wherever people can meet and connect through literature.
