HJEM

One person lives there. Another moves in.

Two people try to figure out how to live together. How do we share rhythms, routines, and spaces when we are different? The audience is invited in close as the home becomes a stage, and the stage becomes a home.

Hjem (Home) is a sensory performance about the familiar and the vulnerable aspects of sharing space with others. In a time marked by unrest, loneliness, and division, our shared spaces — both physical and social — are under pressure. The performance explores our ability to be together with people we do not necessarily resemble or understand. Two people must learn to live together as closeness, distance, longing, and irritation alternate. Is home a physical place? A feeling? Is home a person?

The performance is presented as Relaxed Theatre, with few rules and room for different ways of experiencing the performance. The audience can move around, take breaks, or simply observe. Hjem seeks to create a space where more people can feel welcome, and where the shared experience does not have to be the same for everyone.

Hjem is created by Kaosteater in co-production with Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium, in collaboration with playwright and director Regina Rex. The performance has been developed through conversations with the local community around Holstebro, including those at Kirkens Korshærs warmth shelter, Nybobakke Asylum Centre, Holstebro Church, and others in the city who generously welcomed us in and shared their unique perspectives on home.

Kaosteater specialises in creating art that is experimental, accessible, and socially engaged, often in unconventional spaces.

Regina Rex brings a poetic and conceptual dramatic language to the project, drawing on her personal experiences as a nomadic artist, for whom ‘home’ has always been fleeting and open to negotiation.

The performance will be presented at turkis in weeks 48 and 49.

The project has been made possible with support from TrygFonden, Den Jyske Kunstfond, Knud Højgaards Fond, and Danske Dramatikere.
