HUUN-HUUR-TU

A concert with Huun-Huur-Tu is a rare opportunity to experience one of the world's most fascinating vocal traditions. Through their hypnotic throat singing, the Tuvan quartet opens the door to a musical heritage that feels both ancient and remarkably present.

Deep within the vast steppes of Central Asia lies Tuva – a place where one of the world's most extraordinary vocal traditions continues to thrive. For centuries, throat singing has been an integral part of rituals, a close connection to nature, and everyday life. Using a remarkable vocal technique, the singers create a captivating soundscape in which overtones and undertones intertwine, giving the impression that several voices are singing at once.

No ensemble has done more to introduce this unique tradition to international audiences than Huun-Huur-Tu. Today, the quartet is regarded as one of the leading names on the global world music scene, captivating audiences across the globe with their vibrant interpretation of Tuva's rich musical heritage.

Over the past decades, Huun-Huur-Tu has toured extensively around the world, performing hundreds of concerts each year on some of the world's most renowned stages. At the same time, they have demonstrated how a centuries-old tradition can continue to evolve through new musical expressions. In 2002, a remix of their song Eki Attar became an unexpected summer hit in Greece, while their collaborative album Spirits of Tuva, created with international DJs, reached the top of the European World Music Charts.

The band has also collaborated with the Swiss vocal ensemble STIMMHORN on a film produced for ARTE, contributed music to the soundtrack of the award-winning film Atanarjuat, and continued to explore new directions for traditional throat singing. In 2015, they embarked on another major world tour, performing more than 300 concerts. Shortly afterwards, millions of new listeners discovered the band through YouTube, where their videos have since accumulated more than five million views. In 2017, they released their groundbreaking debut album 60 Horses in My Herd on vinyl for the first time.

"Når de lader tonerne stige op fra strubens dybeste dyb, begynder overtonerne at danse og svæver ud i transparente, næsten uhåndgribelige melodier. … Strubesangstraditionen fra Tuva udstråler en arkaisk fascination, som det er næsten umuligt at rive sig løs fra."
