SHARED READING | EKKO
What does everyday life look like in Egypt? Palestine? Or Mumbai? It can be difficult to imagine a life far removed from our own. But through literature, we can come closer. We read about other people’s everyday lives, conflicts, joys and concerns and reflect on whether any of it echoes in our own lives.
We read to gain a deeper understanding of what we perceive as unfamiliar and to discover similarities across places, experiences and borders.
EKKO is part of Læseforeningen and uses the method of Shared Reading. Taking part in Shared Reading requires no preparation or knowledge of literature—only curiosity and an open mind. The texts are read aloud by a trained Reader Leader, and conversation unfolds along the way.
Come as you are and see if something resonates with you.
Participation is free, but registration is required. Sign up by sending Weronika a text message at +45 22 56 93 32.
The reading group meets in the afternoon at turkis, approximately every other Monday.
Everyone is welcome.
ABOUT SHARED READING
Shared Reading is a method developed to create shared experiences of literature through live reading in small groups. Each session is led by a reading guide and alternates between reading aloud and conversation.
No preparation is required. The method focuses on the feelings and thoughts that arise spontaneously as the text is being read. The conversation is based on each person’s individual reading experience and the life experiences they bring to their understanding of the text – rather than any previous academic knowledge of literature. Everyone can take part.
ABOUT LÆSEFORENINGEN
Læseforeningen is a civil society organisation working at the intersection of literature, mental health promotion and social development. Its purpose is to bring literature to where it can make a difference and to create strong reading communities for people from all walks of life and across social backgrounds.
Læseforeningen has a particular focus on including people in vulnerable life situations and works across sectors to establish reading groups wherever people can come together.
